Most people are not interested in investing in a home security system because of the fear of burning a hole in their pockets. But, what one doesn’t realize is that this cost is minimal for keeping one’s home, properties, and family safe. A home security system is a one-time investment and the cost of maintaining it is also negligible. A single robbery alone can amount to thousands of dollars; just imagine having your new high-end laptop, jeweleries, and other valuables stolen. The amount of these things which can easily be stolen will immediately offset the cost of installing a new home security system. Having your home prepped up with a necessary home security system also means that potential robbers would think twice before they attempt to ransack your place –the sight of an alarm alone makes a house very unattractive to crooks. Another good thing about having a good home security system installed in your house is that it will leave you and your family feeling secure when you are away and when you are home.

If you’re really on a , you can suspend the plans of buying a home security system and for the meantime make some measures to improve your home security. So here are few tips on making your home more protected without spending too much.

First, keep all access points to the house such as doors and windows secure simply by locking them even if you’re inside your home. If you’re living in an apartment or condo, be sure to have a new lock installed or better yet replace it — since caretakers often have a spare key to all the doors in the apartment.

Second, keep your backyard well lit during the evening and bushes trimmed as dark places plus bushes makes a perfect hiding spot for those crooks.

Third, don’t let strangers enter your house –you might say this rule is just for kids. But sadly, even grown-ups often get tricked by crooks in uniform carrying a . One should always put into mind to never trust anyone they have just seen; never let them enter your home if it is not a necessity and if you have to leave them for a minute, keep them outside the house and be sure to lock the door as it won’t take 5 minutes to get something valuable from your home.

Fourth and last, get a dog. Dogs have a greater sense of smell and sight than humans and they also have a knack at barking and chasing away strangers. These few tips are effective preventions of robbery.

However, the steps mentioned is not a full protection package against robbers. These criminals are sneaky and creative, they would always think of a way to get into your house. It would be better if you save some money and invest initially on a cheap home security system such as door alarms and motion or infrared detectors, this way you can get the message across to this felons — “just try to rob me, and you’ll surely end up in jail”. A home security system may cost you some amount of money, but it’s all definitely worth it since it’s in exchange for the safety of all things and people you care for.
